Between the years 1901 and 1927, Val-Jalbert vibrated happily to the rhythm of his pulp mill. In 1901, when the factory was built by Damase Jalbert, the village was called "Ouiatchouan", the name of the fall that fed the mill to make the wood pulp.

If the history of Val-Jalbert ended in 1927 with the closure of the pulp mill, it has become a must-see tourist destination in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, because it offers a multitude of activities and activities. accommodation and restaurant services that are out of the ordinary!

It is an open-air museum where you can, among other activities, touch the houses of period wood, the school-convent, the post office and the general store which held the place of "supermarket" and which today houses a souvenir shop, a friendly café terrace and comfortable rooms.
