Founded in 1860, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is the oldest art museum in Canada and one of North America's great museums. Its collection allows visitors to explore Quebec and Canadian heritage and international art from a critical and intercultural perspective.
It brings together more than 45,000 paintings, sculptures, graphic artworks, photographs, multimedia installations, and decorative arts objects, from Antiquity to the present day. The MBAM's exhibitions cross disciplines ranging from archaeology to fine art to contemporary practices. The museum's five interconnected pavilions include more than 80 exhibition rooms, the Bourgie Concert Hall, an auditorium and cinema, a boutique and bookstore, a publishing house, a public art garden, and the Michel de la Chenelière International Workshop for Education and Art Therapy. As a pioneer museum in the field of art therapy, the MBAM collaborates with the community, education, health, and technology sectors to offer inclusive and enriching experiences in contact with art.
