The St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival is thrilled to announce the incomparable Mado Lamotte as the official festival spokesperson. An artist of many tricks and whistles, Mado is a Montreal icon. As a Quebecois writer, performer and musician with a long history with the festival, Mado celebrates the future of the Montreal FRINGE and joins in a nostalgic appreciation of it’s past. Festival organizers are pleased to have her join the roster of spokespersons, which has previously been graced by such names as Holly Gauthier-Frankel (2014), Simon Boulerice (2014, 2010), Johanna Nutter (2013), Benoit-Drouin Germain (2012), and Steve Galluccio (2011).
“A quarter century of eclectic theatre, wacky shows, electrifying music, crazy drag queen races and unforgettable parties. FRINGE is all that and much, much more.” says Mado who has been entertaining Fringe audiences for 15 years now. This year marks a notable milestone for her: the 15th edition of the Drag Races. This event is a competition between Mado’s queens and the festivals’ wannabe ladies in an outrageous battle of the babes. Lip syncing, makeovers, cocktails and more!
A famous personality of the Montreal cabaret scene, Mado has been designing and hosting the wildest evenings in the country for the last 25 years. Queen of kitsch and parody, and unparalleled hostess, Mado became known to the public through her Quebec TV appearances, her humorous articles in the monthly Fugues and the weekly ICI Montreal publications, with her famous bingo evenings at the Spectrum in Montreal, at the Montreal Casino and in the Just for Laughs Festival.
Among her greatest achievements to date is Mascara, a show she has organized, coordinated and hosted since 1997. It has been seen by more than 300 000 audience members to date. Mado is also responsible for the creation of the now famous Cabaret Mado. Since it’s creation in May 2002, the Cabaret continues to draw crowds from Montreal and beyond.
Exuberant, intelligent, extravagant, Mado Lamotte is a colorful and imaginative character. She is unquestionably a unique phenomenon born a new generation of comedians. Inspired by the universe of Michel Tremblay, and a child of Fanfreluche, Mado Lamotte is, humbly, the most fabulous eccentric of Quebec: the biggest star on the entertainment scene of the new millennium!
